Careers & Work Experience

Careers, Education, Information & Guidance (CEIAG)

WGSG has developed a whole-school careers and employability strategy, and offers guidance that is impartial, independent and available to all. The school has a coherent programme which can demonstrate that students are making progress towards learning outcomes. The school has achieved the Investors in Careers Award, a prestigious award, which is given in recognition of our high quality provision.

The school has an in-house Careers Adviser and also arranges for an independent Careers Adviser to deliver face to face interviews and group work sessions. The external adviser is also qualified to deliver and interpret Morrisby Psychometric and Aptitude profiles.

Students are supported to research their career interests, training requirements and a wide range of possibilities, including university, college, and apprenticeships. Careers are embedded into the curriculum through PSHE lessons, within the sixth-form, and using resources on the schools shared area.  Focus days; together with assemblies on education and training, are delivered to the entire school to help students to make better-informed choices.

The school endeavours to offer students opportunities to engage positively with their futures, both in terms of increasing expectations and exploring the best routes into the careers that interests them.  A range of online material allows students to gain clear and relevant information about the kind of jobs that are available.

The links in the below sections give further information. In addition, there are further resources available to students on RMUnify (the school's virtual learning environment; school username and password required). There is also a survey to let you tell us what you think of the careers service in school.
